Rat club rules
What sucks in behaviorial study is that it's a daily repetition issue. And the people working in our lab have such inconvenient schedules, so different people run the rats at different time. For some reason, we only have two keys for the rat colony room so the keys are kept in a drawer that everybody can get it when needed. The problem is, almost everybody forgets to put the key back now and then, and the others couldn't find the keys. I bet our technician was pissed off on some weekend, then we found the "Rat club rules" in the drawer later.
Rat club rule #1:
If you take the key, return the key;
Rat club rule#2:
If you take the key, return the key;
That's a pretty good idea because since then, every time I open the drawer I always can find two keys stay there, safe and sound.
Then, another problem comes: one guy never feeds the rats after he runs them. So I have to feed them whenever it's his turn to run the rats. Here comes our 3rd rule:
Rat club rule #3:
If you run the rats, you feed the rats;
Yes, that guy did feed the rats but didn't sign on the feeding chart. I fed those happy guys again and they were all overweight the next day. Not surprising, we have 4th rule now.
Rat club rule #4:
If you feed the rats, you initial the feeding chart.
I start to think about putting these rules on my life too. Because they make sense in my life too.
Rule #1 tells you if something doesn't belong to you, you better not keep it; Rule #2 reminds you how important it is to follow rule #1;
Rule #3 tells you that you need to consider your responsebilities before you start to do anything and take them after you start to do the things;
Rule #4 means, if you do fulfill your responsebilities, let people know.
